About
My name is Lynne Sturtevant. I’m an award-winning writer obsessed with experiencing new places whether they’re down the street, on the other side of the world, or hidden in the landscape of dreams and imagination.
I am also a time traveler. I love digging into the past, especially when there’s a whiff of an old mystery or secret in the air.
Writing and travel have one thing in common: The possibility of something intriguing just over the horizon.
When I was 12 years old, I boarded a plane for the first leg of a journey that took me from a quiet small town in Ohio to noisy, exotic Manila. The time I spent in Asia opened my mind and stimulated my imagination. It also changed the trajectory of my life.
After college and a stint in state government, I stopped trying to resist my wanderlust. I became an entry-level travel agent pounding an airline computer and booking Disney World vacations. It was quite a ride and before all was said and done, I owned a successful agency in the heart of Washington, DC.
In 2005, my husband and I moved to the small town of Marietta, Ohio where I opened my own tour and events company. Over the next several years, I developed dozens of successful programs as well as a few that bombed.
My tours and events were so popular, I attracted the attention of The History Press. I wrote two books for them. Haunted Marietta: History and Mystery in Ohio’s Oldest City and A Guide to Historic Marietta, Ohio are available on Amazon.
In 2016, we moved to Albuquerque. It was one of the best decisions we ever made. I blog and post pictures of my adventures in the Land of Enchantment at Hidden New Mexico.
New Mexico is the perfect creative enviornment for me. I’ve been writing up a storm since I arrived. I recently published a series of how-to books. Create Successful Walking Tours, The Collaboration Kit, and Hometown: Writing a Local History or Travel Guide are available on Amazon.
I also launched a contemporary fantasy series called the Off-Kilter Chronicles featuring Ginger Stewart. Fiftyish, blue collar, overweight, and snarky, Ginger is not a typical fantasy heroine. In Book One, The Good Neighbors, she tangles with a troop of despicable Celtic fairies running amok in the hills of West Virginia. Book Two, The Ghost of Walker’s Gap, is the tale of a doomed artist set against a backdrop of Appalachian legends and folk magic. The series is available on Amazon.
Book Three of the Off-Kilter Chronicles is in the works. Strange things are happening in Black Hand Holler, West Virginia. Mysterious lights flicker deep in the forest. Knocking echoes from long-sealed coal mines. Even the bees swarming in the abandonned orchards and the crows roosting on the ridgetops seem agitated. When a wealthy woman swoops in with plans to transform the holler into an upscale resort, the disruptions turn deadly. Could a backwoods witch who hexed the holler more than a century ago be to blame?
